Week 7 : Asian Pacific American (Then There Were None)

This documentary video is fascinating story of Hawaiian people displaced and they nearly have no native Hawaiian population and cultulre.
Before European contact to Hawaii, they were more than half a millon pure Hawaiians in the island. However, after 50 years later, populations droped off. As American missionaries upheaval of the religious structure: moreover, sugarcane and pineapple farms took their land and warfare(WW2). It would be a predictable result of no more pure Hawaiian in 2044.

I listened this about one and half hours. I chooes this video because I Interested about Asian immigrant. This video affects me to think of extinction. Unfortunately, it reminds me Korea Independent from Japan long thims ago. If we didn't fight or lose, I would not be here, now. If I have a chance to join for Independent of Hawaii, I would like to advocate.

Story about the Teacher Learns A Lesson: Coming Out In Class

When? In 1991
Who? John Byrne, 56year old, an English teacher.
What? Coming out
Where? In class where he taught
Why? He just wanted to be himself.
How? He went marched and bring it up to student.

John Byrne, who is an English teacher coming out in class.

Byrne was very strict in class because he was afraid his students would to find out he was gay. As he was anxious about his gay character would be learned. It made him live with alarm.

He lived in the shadows, couldn’t help kids with heart and didn’t have his identify. He didn’t want to live like that anymore; he just wanted to be himself.

For that reason, he decided to come out to his 10^th graders.

Then, he used marching in gay parades that helped him to bring it up naturally in front of kids.

When he talked about he was gay to kids, they were compassionate. They realized that he was anxious and they helped him along.

From then on, he had a better life. It made him a better teacher.
Finally, two years later, the kids asked him to be their graduation speaker.
Here he said, and I quote, "And I talked to the parents about how proud they should be of their children, for having taught me and helped me through a really difficult time in my life. It was a wonderful turning point."


I listened this redio 4times and reason why I chose this redio is because I have bunch of gay friends. Also, I wonder who was so brave, and I think this story is very hopeful.
His speak the truth of his heart is so impressed me.

Jefferson Writes Declaration of Independence

Thomas Jefferson writes the Declaration of Independence

Almost everyone knows that Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.
He died long time ago, but his motivate is still alive.
However, did you know that, like most people who write something, he wrote at least one rough draft? This is an example of what's left of the earliest know draft of the Declaration. You can see that Jefferson heavily edited his first draft befor he prepared. The other representatives from the 13 colonies include Jhon Adams, selected Jefferson to write the Declaration because they all agreed he was the best writer.

I listened this video about 20 minutes.
I choose this because i want to know more about Thoma Jefferson.
I didn't know he wasn't good speaker, but hi wrote wonderful Declaration of Independence.
Moreover, because of the Declaration on Independence gave Americans Liberty.
I think from that we had America Dreams.

Little about myself

Hi, my name is Sydney.  I come from Korea.  My parent are living in Korea, my brother is in Japan and I and my sister in the USA.  I’m currently living with my sister, brother-in-law, one niece and one nephew.  My family is so spread out in the world. I speak Korean very well and little English.  I’m a high school graduate pretty long time ago.  My favorite subject is computer graphic design.  However, I want to study business for my future and I want to open my own business in the U.S.A.  Now, I support to study myself, and I wish I can graduate this SCCC.
